TRI Studios is doing some real cool stuff; I was very impressed by Dan Bern and Common Rotation. Check out this clip that TRI posted:

Thanks for posting this. I stumbled across Dan Bern in 2000 on Napster looking for Leonard Cohen's song Chelsea Hotel. I had downloaded Bern's song of the same name and really enjoyed him.

Is the Dylan influence on his vocal phrasing dialed up just a tad?

Nice Gibson acoustic guitar however.

I did. It was very, very good. I have no idea of setlist, but since new album came out, even if it a live release, I suspect a lot of it was from the same. Sorry - I don't know his catalogue well enough to comment (although he is the guy that leads the songwriting workshops at the Henry Miller Library)

you HAVE to go see him BD. Seems that R & B and funk etc is one of your biggest musical favorites so I'm not sure where you stand on the singer songwriter thing. I know you love Richard Thompson so I suspect the obvious that anything quality you will like. All I can say is this guy cranks out so many songs on the fly it's amazing. I'm the type that enjoys humor and irony in his music so his stuff really speaks to me. Anyway, always a good show.

Yea, he's playing the crepe place in santa cruz, which is very small, and our place [Alternative Cafe in Seaside] usually hosts people that have just played or will play the crepe place (like Jolie Holland this past Monday and Peter Case recently). I've asked our booking guy to see if we can swing Dan.

Also, some of my favorite performers are in that singer/songwriter category - like Ryan, Kevn Kinney, Zimmerman, Neil, etc. Quality is quality.

sweet! Thanks! Could NOT get stream to work the day of the show. Would love to see the whole thing. HUGE Dan Bern fan. Blatant vocal comparisons to Dylan aside imo he deserves to be ranked up there. The guy is astoundingly prollific. I can not believe he's still playing coffee houses
